Our Service
Extrusion Crowd Sourcing
Extruders Come to You Instead of You Going to Extruders
You can use directories and spend all day finding the right custom or stock extrusion company, or you can rely on Qualified Vendor's marketplace to get you multiple quotes quickly for your custom extrusion and stock extrusion work. When you put your job in our marketplace we notify each the extrusion company that matches your profile. From there, up to five self select to quote your job. Self selection is an important key to our marketplaces. By getting multiple quotes you meet vendors with spare capacity and you get a feel for their level of customer service.
How We Match
Circle Size and Proximity
When we post your custom extrusion or stock extrusion RFQ we pay attention to the circle size first. Although it's best shown in an article in our aluminum extrusions blog, circle size varies from vendor to vendor. To match your job we find all the extruders that can produce up to the circle size of your part and then we filter by proximity.
Since extrusion jobs are produced by the billet, and a typical can weigh several hundred pounds, freight costs are a consideration. For this reason, most of the larger extruder businesses have facilities all over the country. We always source closest to you first and then spiral out.
Secondary Operations
Finishing, Heat Treating, Welding & More
Finishing is an important aspect of aluminum, brass and copper extrusion. Many companies are set up to produce raw tonnage and either refuse to do secondary operations or outsource everything. If you're making window frames, this may be acceptable. If you're making intricate housings or elaborately machined heat sinks, good luck. The rule of thumb is: the more links in the chain the more likely it is to be broken. This ties back into our self selection. People come to us with all kinds of jobs ranging from extrusions less than an inch across to 30 inch tubes. We can find extruders to do it all.
Some typical secondary operations include:
- Wet paint
- Powder Coating
- Hard, Anodizing
- Decorative Anodizing
- Heat Treating
- Bright Dipping
Other applications include:
- Aluminum, Brass & Copper profiles
- Parts from 0.1" to 30"
- Thin and thick walls
- Solids & hollows
- Complex parts (with multiple torpedoes)
- Stepped profiles

How Our Free Buyer Service Works
Quoting Without the Work
Our service is very simple. Send us your request-for-quote (RFQ) on the web, by phone or by fax and we make a summary visible to all the suppliers in our database that can do your job. On average, our database contains 90% of all the suppliers in a given vertical, i.e., machining. Suppliers are free to browse a summary of your job but your full RFQ details and contact information will only go to five that choose to quote your job based on their capabilities and ability to meet your schedule.
Why Only Five?
The Magic Number
As former design engineers and purchasing professionals dealing in low to medium production volumes, we never had a need for more than five quotes per item. What we wanted was a handful of quotes from quality suppliers. Our target buyer’s are those sourcing low to medium size production runs like we did. While they’re cost sensitive, they’re more focused on quality and repeatability than beating suppliers up on price.
What Does It Cost?
Free Buyer Service
Our service is completely free for buyers. Suppliers self-select based on your RFQ summary whether or not they can and want to quote your job.
How We Differ From Other Services
Skin In the Game
Other services sell subscriptions to suppliers in exchange for access to a pool of RFQs. The problem with this [from a buyer’s standpoint] is that you get inundated with questions about your RFQ from dozens of suppliers, but your RFQ only has visibility to suppliers paying for access to the pool. It’s like a lot of smoke but no fire.
We reverse that by making a summary of your RFQ visible to everyone and charging an access fee to suppliers that can do your job. The access fee, or as we like to call it “skin in the game”, weeds out most of the bad vendors. Additionally, suppliers build a transaction history over time based on buyer feedback that further helps to qualify vendors.
Information Safety
Total Assurance
Your intellectual property is safe with Qualified Vendor. We individually approve each supplier that gets quotes through our system. Your part files and drawings are all encrypted and are only accessible through dynamic links through the supplier’s account manager.
